Qualifications and Experience

I am a qualified Systemic Therapist and Systemic Supervisor with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and a Master of Science Degree in Psychotherapy. I am also trained in Non Violent Resistance and in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

My training and work experience journey is simultaneously a life journey across different countries. Having lived in many places outside of my birth country, I am particularly in touch with what it means to live away from home. I understand what this might mean for a person's identity and significant relationships.

My professional journey started in my birth country, Greece, where I trained and qualified as a Social Worker. I soon became fascinated by how effective family therapy can be in making changes to people’s relationships and lives.

In 2004 I moved to Dublin, Ireland to complete a 4 year postgraduate training as a Systemic Family Therapist. This included a Master of Science in Psychotherapy from University College Dublin.

During this time I worked systemically with families in community and inpatient adult settings for addiction, mental health and eating disorders. These included the Health Service Executive (HSE) and St. Patrick’s University Hospital. In these roles I gained a lot of experience in the area of mental health and in helping individuals and families affected by a wide range of mental health difficulties.

My passion for systemic therapy led me to move to the UK in 2014. There I worked as a systemic psychotherapist in child and adolescent mental health community and inpatient NHS settings. These included eating disorders and forensic mental health settings. During this time I worked with parents and young people experiencing a variety of difficulties.

I also trained as a Systemic Supervisor and worked as a lecturer and clinical supervisor on the Birmingham Family Therapy Training Masters level programme, which was delivered in conjunction with Parkview Clinic and the University of Birmingham.

I trained and worked as supervisor because I saw family therapy help many families overcome very challenging situations and I felt passionate about sharing these skills with other professionals. I feel joy seeing colleagues develop their skills and I also learn a lot from them which I believe makes me a better therapist.

I am a Non Violent Resistance  (NVR) practitioner, an approach specialised in helping parents of young people with aggressive, coercive or self-destructive behaviours. I am also involved in training and supervising professionals in Non Violent Resistance.

Since I founded Mitos, I have been trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I have been working with many couples and intercultural relationships.

I speak Greek, fluent English and Spanish as a second language at C2 level. I am currently learning Dutch and this has reconnected me with the experience of being a learner and out of my comfort zone, an experience that we all have in life at different times.

What matters to me in my work

What I love about my work is the meaningful connection with people and seeing their worries decrease as their relationships with those that are important to them become closer. It is important to me that the people I work with feel understood and valued. I like to consult with people on what they find useful and to check that we are on the right track.
